Two seperate property foundations were compromised due to a sink hole that occurred under one of the Hygate Condominiums units on West Chocolate Avenue in Hershey Pennsylvania. The sink hole opened up abruptly and without warning, causing sections of the condo's foundation walls to drop roughly 4 inches at both properties.
Along with the settlement, the foundation walls also tipped inward into the basements of the units approximately 2 inches. With both properties condemned for inhabitants until appropriate repairs were made, the project needed to be completed quickly and correctly.
ITG Basement Systems provided foundation underpinning and wall tiebacks manufactured by Foundation Supportworks. ITG drove new galvanized steel piers into the earth to depths of around 60 feet to provide lift and stabilization to the walls that failed due to the sink hole. After being lifted back into place, ITG used Wall Anchor tie backs to pull the tilting walls back level. The project took approximately 2 weeks, start to finish.
